On February 22nd, at the CNN Republican Presidential debate in Arizona, the candidates were asked to describe themselves in one word. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) gave a great answer – “consistent.” It is absolutely true that Ron Paul has been nothing but consistent for the past 30 years.
He has never voted for a tax increase, an unbalanced budget, for gun control or congressional pay – there is a reason they call him “Dr. No.”
Despite his consistency though, I think I may have a better word to describe him – “principled.” Not only is he consistent in his voting record and his rhetoric, that record follows a principled philosophy; the idea of strict constitutionalism and freedom for all.
Unlike other politicians, Ron Paul doesn’t vote against unconstitutional measures and support liberty because they help him politically. He does so because he truly believes in it. He truly believes that constitutionally-limited government and personal liberty is the best policy to follow and this notion is reflected in his every vote and every speech.
“Supporting Ron Paul is a rejection of politics as usual,” Ron Paul for President National Blogger Jack Hunter told Red Alert Politics in an interview. “A lot of people like to think that Ron Paul supporters might not be conventional Republicans. Well the majority of us, we are not, and that’s part of the reason he is so successful.”
Regardless of whether or not you agree with Ron Paul on the issues, he has clearly has a consistent economic policy, calling for an end to the Federal Reserve, an end to the income tax and a return to the gold standard.
He is principled in his foreign policy, calling for an end to war and a return to a strong national defense, protection of our borders and free trade with the world.
He is principled in his domestic policy,calling for an end to harmful regulation and red tape, for free markets, the protection of life, energy independence and true freedom and personal responsibility for all Americans.
He believes, just as our Founders did, that we cannot give up our freedoms for supposed security. We have gone down a slippery slope the past 10 years, and we have given up way too many freedoms in order to feel secure when we have simply become less secure and less free.
“With the exception of people like Reagan and Barry Goldwater, Ron Paul is the most right-wing/conservative person to ever run for President of the United States,” says Hunter, who is also Coalitons Director of Young Americans for Liberty.
All of this adds up to a consistent, principled political platform advocating freedom, peace and prosperity – the philosophy of liberty. In everything Paul does, both in his personal and public life, he sticks to his principles, and it is time that we had a person of principle back in the White House.
