#LeanIn was already taken, so feminist Barbie encourages girls to be #Unapologetic

Move over, Malibu Barbie. Feminist Barbie is the next big thing.

The team behind the iconic doll is heavily advertising the new “Entrepreneur Barbie” on their Instagram page. Because #LeanIn was already taken, Barbie’s hashtag mantra is #Unapologetic.

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition featured Barbie in a bathing suit on the coverwrap of their 2014 issue. Of course, controversy followed suit and Mattel decided that Barbie was in need of a professional twist.

In a statement on barbiecollector.com, the company wrote from the doll’s perspective in response to the backlash. They urged readers to “be free to launch a career in a swimsuit, lead a company while gorgeous, or wear pink to an interview at MIT.”

Just a few months later, Entrepreneur Barbie was unveiled and #Unapologetic came with her. A photo on Barbie’s Instagram defined the hashtag by saying “celebrate who you are & never apologize for it.”

Entrepreneur Barbie has been busy with her many business endeavors, but most recently visited LinkedIn headquarters to make her own profile. So far she has less than 5,000 followers—probably because most of her audience is too young to form sentences, let alone create a LinkedIn page.

A pink, belted, knee-length dress is Entrepreneur Barbie’s outfit of choice. She is accessorized with a briefcase and smartphone to help her “break through plastic ceilings.” I also expect that she will encourage girls to think outside the box…
