Conservative Comedian Steven Crowder Schools Young Conservatives on Appropriate Dress

At an annual gathering of conservative bloggers, conservative comedian and political commentator Steven Crowder had some tough words for young conservatives on their inappropriate attire at conferences such as the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

Crowder, a popular figure among young conservatives, dropped his usual schtick to call on young conservatives to walk the walk and not just talk the talk on their conservative principles by dressing and acting more professionally.

“I think if you’re a man, you’re a conservative, you respect women, you wanna go on air and b***h about Bill Maher being a sexist, you open a damn door for a dame if she’s walking into CPAC,” Crowder told attendees of The Franklin Center and FreedomWork’s third annual BlogCon (#BlogConCLT).

Likewise, Crowder told women that if they wanted to be treated with respect, they needed to earn it by dressing more appropriately.

“And I think if you’re a woman, and you’re at CPAC, and you’re walking in dressed like a lady of the night, hammered, and you complain about how people think of you the wrong way, you can’t complain if they can’t delineate you from the liberal down the street.”

Crowder was referring blogs from RedState’s Erick EricksonMelissa Clouthier and other conservatives questioning young conservatives at CPAC for dressing and acting in poor taste.

Crowder said he wasn’t calling anyone specifically out, and that he “couldn’t be less professional” himself, but said it was an issue that needed to be discussed.

“We can’t walk talk and act like liberals in the public face, and then behind the scenes are completely unaccountable to each other and expect folks to think we do it better than the leftists,” he said.

He pointed out that even those on the center-right who wouldn’t consider themselves “conservative” but are attending these conference need to be more cognizant of their behavior.

“Not everyone here is a social conservative. I understand that. I’m not saying that you have to be. Some of us are libertarians who smoke a lot of pot. Whatever. Fine. But if you’re approaching people at CPAC, and you’re talking like it’s a men’s stall, again, liberals, love to point to hypocrisy,” he said. “I don’t really think it’s appropraite, and I think Erik Erickson made a great point, and it was lost in the shuffle.”

He said this generation will be the ones “spearheading the conservative movement” and will be the next Sean Hannitys, Glenn Becks and Roger Ailes’, “and you will be in a position to change everything that bothers you now, or become the exact same establishment that you claim to hate today.”

Crowder, a Fox News contributor, also called on conservative bloggers to support each other and be accountable to each other because Fox News doesn’t care about them.

“They generally see you as a vehicle to be used when something is newsworthy,” he said.

He encouraged attendees to set aside a time of day to respond to emails from other conservatives and to promote other conservatives’ content.

“I think the way we live our lives matters more than what we post,” he said.
