Former First Lady Laura Bush said she was “shocked” when her mother-in-law — and another former first lady — Barbara Bush denounced a potential Jeb Bush presidential run back in 2013, declaring that that the country had had “enough Bushes” in the White House.
“I was shocked,” Laura told ABC’s Jonathan Karl during an interview Wednesday.
Laura said she supported Jeb’s likely 2016 run, but said she would have never told Barbara that to her face.
“Do you think I would tell my mother-in-law something?” she joked.
Barbara has since walked back the statements herself, saying in February that she had changed her mind.
Her announcement of that fact came around the time that Jeb declared his serious intent and formed an exploratory committee.
