Sharing your embarrassing life secrets doesn’t make you a hero, as this week’s ‘Saturday Night Live‘ proved.
The ‘SNL’ cold open featured an episode of ‘Fox and Friends,’ and while it was meant to poke fun at the conservative show, the skit actually made some good points.
The trio discussed NBA player Jason Collins coming out as gay, something that prompted President Obama to say he’s proud of the athlete.
“Well, the latest job numbers have prompted some people to say that things are looking up,” said Steve Doocy, played by Taran Killam. “But I still know a whole lot of folks out of work out there. And what is the President doing about it? Congratulating basketball players for being gay?”
“I know,” Gretchen Carlson, played by Vanessa Bayer, said. “Of course, we support NBA players Jason Collins in his decision, but can we please stop calling him a hero?”
“Exactly,” fake Doocy responded. “I mean, since when does telling your embarrassing personal secrets make you a hero?”
The three hosts also interviewed New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, played by Fred Armisen. Doocy asked the Mayor why he thought he’d be able to push through federal gun control legislation, even though others have failed.
“Well, because I’ve dealt with it, Steve,” Bloomberg responded. “If there’s one person America’s gun owners will listen to, it’s a Northeast Jewish billionaire.”
Well-said, Bloomberg.
