Piers Morgan attacks Rep. Sean Duffy over government shutdown

Piers Morgan isn’t an American citizen, but that doesn’t mean he’s exempting himself from the government shutdown blame game, as the Brit attacked Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wisc.) on Monday night.

Fewer than three hours before the federal government shut down, the host of Piers Morgan Live blamed House Republicans for the Washington gridlock, telling the Congressman it is a “shameful dereliction of your duty.”

“Tell me, what is your view about what is happening right now?” Morgan asked Duffy. “Are you proud of the fact that the renegade element, as some are calling the Republican Party — leading us all into a government shutdown?”

In response, the Wisconsin Congressman — who is on the House Budget Commitee — stressed that Republicans wanted to keep the government open. But the GOP also wanted the Obama administration to be subject to Obamacare exchanges and the American people to be given the same one-year delay of implementation of the Affordable Care Act as big businesses and unions.

During the back-and-forth, Morgan himself even admitted the healthcare law is flawed.

“What I believe is of course there are issues with Obamacare,” the host said. “It’s a massive program, and those issues should be explored and debated. And I’m sure it will be amended several times.”

But the host continued to attack Duffy, claiming the GOP wanted to shut down the government and was becoming the laughingstock of the world.
