President Obama admitted during an exclusive interview with entertainment news show Extra that his teenage daughters Sasha and Malia are embarrassed by him.
“They do think that their dad is sometimes a little embarrassing,” Obama told correspondent Jerry Penacoli during a conversation in the White House Rose Garden that aired Thursday.
“I try to not give them too much cause for embarrassment,” he added.
In an appearance on The Tonight Show earlier this year, first lady Michelle Obama gave host Jimmy Fallon a glimpse into what about her husband might embarrass their daughters.
“The other day the girls [Sasha and Malia] were trying to clue [Barack] in on what a group chat was on text. He didn’t know,” Michelle explained. “So, we’re all sitting around the dinner table and they looked him and Malia said, ‘Oh, dad, you’re so detached.'”
Despite his tendency to embarrass them, the president is nevertheless proud of his “kind” and “respectful” daughters. He praised Sasha and Malia for their work ethic, observing that his own drive was never so strong.
“The truth is, the girls are wonderful,” Obama affirmed. “They work hard. They work a lot harder than I ever did as a kid.”
And, regardless of the stress of serving as president, raising teen girls and dealing with a forthcoming move from the White House, Obama declared, “I feel great!”
As was his plan, the president also used the Extra interview to plug Obamacare, claiming that his championed universal healthcare law is “working well” despite the website problems and the “politics and noise around it.”
