It gets pretty bad for the President when otherwise friendly pundits on MSNBC start noticing that his leading spokespersons are looking rattled on TV.
But the pundits on MSNBC’s Morning Joe noted Wednesday morning that the Obama campaign appears to be in total panic mode.
“You and I, we all know David Axelrod, we’re good friends with David. You see him on TV, he looks, I’ve never seen him look the way he looks on TV,” host Joe Scarborough said. “His eyes are wide open, he seems very upset and very agitated. Have you noticed that over the past four or five days?”
Time magazine political analyst Mark Halperin noted that the Obama campaign thought they could put away Mitt Romney during the summer by heavily outspending their challenger, but reality has set in that they are being outspend by Republicans.
“So, I think they are a little bit worried that they will be buried under an avalanche of Super PACS and if they don’t have this thing in hand by the convention, they may be in some trouble,” Halperin said.
While Mike Barnicle speculated that the Obama campaign that the race has hit a “pivot point” that could have them worried, noting that that its effort to polarize Paul Ryan and his entitlement-reform has proven more difficult than it thought.
“I don’t know what it is, but there’s a sense of unrest at the top of that campaign that’s palpable.” Barnicle said.
