Here’s a creative way for a state Senator to get attention for a pro-Second Amendment bill they would like to see passed in their state – name it after one of the nation’s most notorious gun control advocates, CNN anchor Piers Morgan.
Oklahoma state Sen. Nathan Dahm is currently pushing for legislation that would loosen the state’s current gun control laws. The bill, entitled the “Piers Morgan Constitutional Right to Keep and Bear Arms Without Infringement Act,” would allow adults to open carry loaded or unloaded guns without a license for hunting or target shooting. The bill would also cover members of the military and law enforcement officials.
“The Second Amendment says the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, and yet when we require our citizens to jump through hoops, pay fees and undergo a process that presumes they’re guilty of something until proven otherwise, their rights are being infringed upon,” Dahm said in a press release. “Senate Bill 1473 simply says Oklahomans can carry firearms in all the places currently allowed by law, but they will no longer be required to obtain a license to do so.”
According to Fox Oklahoma City, already-established gun free zones like schools and government facilities would still be off-limits.
Morgan, who was not very happy about the bill, tweeted the following in response Thursday.
