Nancy Pelosi: A Republican Senate jeopardizes civilization

Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi said Friday night that a Republican takeover of the Senate in November would endanger humanity.

Speaking to “Real Time’s” Bill Maher at a live show in the nation’s capital, Pelosi rebutted Maher’s inference that GOP control of the upper chamber wouldn’t alter the constantly gridlocked legislative body all that much.

“It would be very important for the Democrats to retain control of the Senate. Civilization as we know it today would be in jeopardy if Republicans win the Senate,” Pelosi said, to laughs from the audience.

“This and ISIS are threatening civilization,” Maher cracked back. “Oh no.”

Republicans have been projected consistently to challenge the Democrats’ Senate majority in the upcoming midterm elections. With multiple tight races, The New York Times and The Washington Post currently have the GOP’s odds of flipping the six seats necessary to seize Senate control at roughly 50/50.
