Leadership Institute President Morton Blackwell is urging young conservatives to not give up in future elections.
Blackwell is seeing history repeat itself today just as it did when President Lyndon B. Johnson, a strong left-wing president, was elected in 1964. The Republican Party was beginning to split, with liberal members of the party blaming the conservative members for that loss.
“Conservatives can and will win big again in presidential elections,” Blackwell wrote in an open letter to conservatives published on Redstate.com. “But first we must learn from our experience, do what must be done, and study diligently to become ever more effective.”
Young conservatives need not blame their brethren for President Barack Obama’s second-term win, but band together to understand policy, get the youngest people excited about politics and “learn from our actions” in order to be effective.
“Now is the time to study the lessons of this election and to chart a course for conservatives to win in the future,” Blackwell wrote. “The stakes could not be higher. The margins of victory in the public policy process may be smaller now than at any other time in American history.”
By behaving as one party and ensuring conservative voices are heard, therein lies victory.
