Jon Stewart might actually miss Michael Grimm

“The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart may not have given a very friendly welcome to the 114th Congress, but he did give a hearty goodbye to its one member who will not actually be sworn in.

New York Republican Michael Grimm resigned from Congress officially Tuesday after pleading guilty to tax evasion charges and Stewart was a little nostalgic about the loss of one of Congress’s more colorful characters.

Before the tax evasion charges, Grimm was best known for threatening to throw a NY1 reporter off the Capitol balcony on live TV and Stewart had made fun of him before on the show.

“I’m going to miss you, sweet boy-breaking prince,” Stewart joked.

But the real problem, Stewart and his correspondent Jason Jones found, was that the people of Staten Island did not have representation in Congress on this first day.

Jones, reporting “on site,” said that Staten Island had become a “wasteland.” After getting their digs in at the location, they honed in on the fact that the $1 million special election to replace Grimm will probably lead to the district attorney who didn’t prosecute the cop who fatally choked Eric Garner getting elected.
