The HBO television movie “Game Change,” based on the 2008 presidential campaign, has received 12 Emmy nominations, which is sure to frustrate conservatives and Palin supporters alike. The movie received a chilling reception from those on the Right that believed Sarah Palin was unfairly portrayed as extreme, selfish, and mentally unstable.
Julianne Moore is nominated for her role as Sarah Palin, Woody Harrelson for his portrayal of Republican strategist Steve Schmidt, Ed Harris for his role as Sen. John McCain, and Sarah Paulson for her portrayal of campaign adviser Nicolle Wallace.
The movie, which initially premiered to 2.1 million viewers in March, was roundly criticized by conservatives and even mocked by Sarah Palin’s own political action committee, SarahPAC. After the film premiered, SarahPAC, created a video spoof of what it labeled the film’s “false narrative” that included clips of several of the film’s key players commending Palin for her words at the 2008 Republican National Convention.
“Game Change” was also nominated for “Outstanding Miniseries or Movie,” “Outstanding Cinematography for a Miniseries or Movie,” “Outstanding Music Composition for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special,” “Outstanding Casting for a Drama,” “Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Miniseries or a Movie,” and “Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Miniseries or a Movie.”
Moreover, the film’s director, Jay Roach and writer, Danny Strong also received nominations. Strong wrote the screenplay based on the book by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann.
The Emmy awards will air live on September 23 from Los Angeles, and funnyman Jimmy Kimmel will host.
