Are you a conservative? Are you a student? Do you like writing? If you answered yes to all of these questions, you could be honored on the main stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference this year.
The American Conservative Union, which hosts the conference every year, is offering an opportunity for students to write an essay answering the question “Why am I a conservative?” The writing exercise comes with incentives, of course.
“ACU has an amazing following of creative and intelligent young people and every year staff look forward to reading the essay contest submissions,” Joe Kildea, ACU spokesperson, told Red Alert Politics in an email. “This year we look forward to hearing from students, including home-schooled, high school, college and graduate, on this year’s theme, ‘Why Am I A Conservative?’”
The winning writer will have their essay printed in the Official CPAC 2014 Program and be recognized onstage during the event.
In selecting the winner, the judges are “primarily looking for creative submissions that talk about how the authors came to be conservative as well as how conservatism impacts the world in new and interesting ways,” according to Kildea.
There aren’t many rules or regulations either.
As long as writers are high school, college or graduate students, are already registered for CPAC and keep the essays at 800 words or fewer, they each have a chance to win. Pieces — along with each writer’s name and phone number — must be submitted by Friday, Feb. 7 at 5 p.m. EST to [email protected].
May the best writer win.
