Following days of criticism and calls for apology, Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) offered a one-line apology on Monday to presidential candidate Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) for calling him a “bro with no ho” last week.

“I apologize to the people of Illinois for my inappropriate remarks last week,” said Kirk in an e-mail statement first reported by the Chicago Sun Times.

The Huffington Post reported Sen. Kirk’s inappropriate remarks last week. He was caught on a hot mic at an appropriations markup meeting, referring to Graham, the unmarried Republican candidate, as “a bro with no ho.”

Kirk followed up his comment about the bachelor Graham explaining “that’s what we’d say on the South Side” as his rationale.  Kirk, who is up for re-election in 2016, is not new to criticism for his gaffes – earlier this year Kirk said in an interview that “people drive faster” through black neighborhoods.

In true bro fashion, Graham, said he was not offended by Kirk’s comments, saying he knows he is a “good guy” and that the Illinois senator was just “trying to be funny.”
