The nine Congresswomen who voted against VAWA

Nine Congresswomen were brave enough to vote against the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA), which passed the House yesterday by a vote of 286 to 138. Among the 286 yea votes were 87 Republicans, including House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and House Republican Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.). Earlier in the day, the House voted down a GOP version of the bill drafted by McMorris Rodgers, 166 to 257.

The bill now heads to the president’s desk, as the Senate passed the bill 78 to 22 last week. All four of the chamber’s female Republican members voted for passage.
