President Barack Obama will travel to Los Angeles on Sunday to hold a series of campaign events, including a star-studded Hollywood fundraiser featuring Katy Perry.
According to a White House press release, after enjoying a day off Saturday, Obama will attend a campaign event at the historic Nokia Theatre in the heart of Hollywood as part of his trip.
The White House press advisory did not initially say whether any of the events were fundraisers. However, the Obama campaign confirms that the Nokia Live event is in fact a “30 Days to Victory”concert fundraiser for Obama and performers include Jon Bon Jovi, Earth, Wind & Fire, Jennifer Hudson, Katy Perry and Stevie Wonder, with remarks from San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro.
You may remember Castro from the 2012 Democratic National Convention, where he was a keynote speaker.
A second set of White House press releases on Sunday confirmed that actor George Clooney would also be in attendance at the event.
Tickets at the $44 level (for supporters under the age of 40), $100 and $250 levels are already sold out for the concert, but supporters can still purchase tickets at the $500, $1,000 and $2,500 levels.
Nokia Theatre – a.k.a. L.A. Live – serves as the home of The Emmys and the American Music Awards, and is the future home of the BET Awards. It also served as the fictional home of “The Muppets” in the 2011 remake of the classic film.
Obama has already raised millions this year from Hollywood elites such as director Steven Spielberg, actress Eva Longoria and Clooney. Clooney has already held two fundraisers for Obama this year, including one at his Hollywood home that raised a whopping $15 million for the Obama campaign.
“We raised a lot of money because people love George,” Obama said of the occasion. “They like me; they love George.”
During his trip Obama will also attend a closed-press campaign event for high dollar donors at the home of Dreamworks CEO Jeffrey Katzenburg with special guest Bill Clinton and a campaign event at the Ritz Carlton.
The event at Katzenburg’s house “[Is] a thank you event for a small group of donors,” Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday,
The Hollywood Reporter previously noted that after the concert Obama would attend also a $25,000 a plate fundraiser with Katzenburg. That is likely the Ritz Carlton event.
No doubt Clooney, Katzenburg and Obama’s other friends in Hollywood will help the President meet the previous $15 million record and provide the President with some much needed cash going into the final stretch of the campaign.
