Win or lose come November, Michigan Supreme Court candidate Bridget Mary McCormack became a hero to fans of the political drama “The West Wing” this week after the candidate got her sister, actress Mary McCormack, who is an alumnae of the hit political drama, and her former castmates to shoot an ad for her campaign. The video explains the importance of filling out every section of their ballot, including the sections for non-partisan races that are often overlooked, like the Michigan Supreme Court.
Even though “The West Wing” stopped airing more than six years ago in 2006, the fan base of the drama is still going strong. McCormack’s video has already garnered more than 145,000 views on YouTube in just two days. Not too shabby for a state Supreme Court candidate!
Although she’s running for a non-partisan position in Michigan and is not officially affiliated with any political party, McCormack is likely a progressive Democrat who will likely serve as an activist judge on the bench. McCormack has been endorsed by the Michigan Democratic Party and a long list of Left-leaning organizations such as Planned Parenthood and the Michigan chapter of the National Organization for Women, as well as Democratic Congressman John Dingell.
But the ad itself is strictly non-partisan and stresses the importance of reading up on and voting for down ballot candidates, which is commendable. Hopefully the viral video will inspire thousands of people who usually vote only for their federal representatives to pay closer attention to other candidates running for office in their area this year.
