Former Vice President Dick Cheney knocked President Obama’s foreign policy decisions when he appeared on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday to discuss his opinion of the recent crisis in Iraq fueled by Islamic State in Syria and Iraq (ISIS) militants.
Cheney stressed the fact that the terrorist problem is not confined to Iraq and chided Obama for refusing to accept this “reality.”
“We need an administration to recognize the fact that we’ve got this huge problem, quit peddling the notion that they got core al-Qaeda and therefore there’s no problem out there,” Cheney said.
Not only is the president’s inability to acknowledge the significant presence of terror groups damaging to our country presently, according to Cheney, but it will also hurt America’s future in the fight against terrorism.
“He is dramatically limiting the capability of future presidents to deal with crises by virtue of the policies he’s taken,” asserted the former vice president. “I don’t intend any disrespect for the president, but I fundamentally disagree with him, I think he’s dead wrong in terms of the course he’s taken this nation (on), and I think we’re in for big trouble in the years ahead because of his refusal to recognize reality and because of his continual emphasis upon getting the U.S. basically to withdraw from (the Middle East).”
Cheney said he would combat the current situation in Iraq by aiding the resistance in Syria with training and weapons, but he insisted that now “there are no good, easy answers in Iraq.”
Cheney also isn’t downplaying the possibility of another terrorist attack like 9/11. In fact, he labels such an event one of his current fears.
“One of the things I worried about 12 years ago and that I worry about today is that there will be another 9/11 attack and that the next time it will be with weapons far deadlier than airline tickets and box cutters,” he said.
