Jon Stewart rips Obama for visiting Saudi Arabia out of ‘self interest’

Jon Stewart still can’t get over the fact that President Obama didn’t attend the Paris unity march earlier this month.

During a segment of Wednesday’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Stewart poked fun at the Koch brothers for their planned spending in 2016 before laying in to Obama for cutting his recent India trip short to visit Saudi Arabia.

Obama departed for Saudi Arabia in order to pay his respects to the late King Abdullah, who was responsible for driving down the price of oil in the country and hence making American gasoline cheaper.

Jon Stewart suggested that Obama’s departure from India was motivated by “self interest” and expressed his continued disbelief at the fact that neither Obama nor any high-ranking official attended the demonstration in France following the terror attack on Charlie Hebdo.

“That makes this whole thing seem like craven self interest on America’s part, but nothing could be further from the truth,” Stewart said sarcastically. “That’s not us. This isn’t about Saudi Arabia’s really allies with us or if they hate us or whose human rights record is [more abusive]. This is about solidarity in a difficult time. It’s like in France this month with the unity march. We dropped everything to champion freedom in the face of terrorism.”

When Stewart later discovered the multiple high-profile individuals that journeyed to Saudi Arabia alongside Obama, he became even more exasperated at the lack of U.S. representation in France.

“What the f–k?” the comedian asked.
