Progressives have made no secret of their belief that some things should either be free or available at the expense of others. From poster child Sandra Fluke’s push for free birth control to free Obamaphones, freebies are essential to the progressive agenda — and Generation Progress’ 2013 Make Progress National Summit was no exception.
Throughout the daylong event in Washington, D.C., attendees were encouraged to visit a variety of booths set up on behalf of various progressive institutions, activism groups and left-of-center organizations — from which conference-goers could walk away with enough knickknacks to fill their free “Make Progress” totes.
Here are the eight best freebies distributed at the conference.
1. Condoms and some words of encouragement
Wouldn’t Uncle Sam be proud?
2. Gender neutral bathrooms
For ‘free’dom from gender restraints, naturally.
3. Pro-choice pins
#brochoice
4. Booklets that answer your meaningful questions
It wouldn’t be a progressive conference without LGBT Q&A materials
5. Free water
Because since when did progressives care about the environment anyway?
6. Generation Progress koozies
People still use these?
7. A fashionable tote and t-shirt
It’s the perfect Halloween costume for a young conservative. Thanks, Generation Progress!
8. Lunch
Generation Progress provided a copious supply of sandwiches and snacks to conference attendees. However, Red Alert Politics overheard conference staff say they ran out because “people took multiples.”
Now who says there’s no such thing as a free lunch?
