Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) elicited huge cheers from the audience at the Americans For Prosperity’s “Defending the American Dream Summit” Saturday when he vowed Republicans would take back control of the U.S. Senate and “retire” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
“I’m convinced we’re going to win in 2014 and 2016 is going to be even better,” Cruz announced.
He said the 2014 midterm elections — and likely 2016, the presidential hopeful said — would be dominated by four major issues that he believes the GOP already holds the upper hand on. These issues include immigration, stopping Obamacare, a stronger foreign policy, and defending constitutional rights.
“Number one, no amnesty,” Cruz said. “…If you support amnesty, vote Democrat. If you oppose amnesty, throw Harry Reid out.”
He told the audience that President Barack Obama was considering going it alone on an amnesty policy, but said doing so “would be utterly lawless.”’
The second major issue is stopping Obamacare, Cruz said. He predicted that in 2017 a Republican president would sign a bill “repealing every word of ObamaCare.”
Thirdly, Cruz said they needed to work on “restoring” America’s leadership in the world.
He called ISIS “the face of evil” and said, “We ought to bomb them back to the stone age.”
He also had suggestions for a stronger stance against Russia.
“The state of the world is the Russian bear is encountering the Obama kitty cat,” he said. He said missile defense systems should to be deployed to Poland and the Czech Republic to send a much stronger message to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Lastly, Cruz said the 2014 and 2016 elections must focus on “defending constitutional rights.” He called for the impeachment of Attorney General Eric Holder and said that conservatives must defend the country against gun control, federal educational overreach, and invasions of privacy.
