Poll: Millennials view Christmas as more cultural than religious

While some people are fretting over whether to sign that card to their co-worker “Happy Holidays” or “Merry Christmas,” Millennials are just saying ‘pass the eggnog’ and aren’t giving it a thought.

A new poll released by the Pew Research Center finds that 43% of Millennials say that for them, Christmas is more of a cultural celebration than a religious holiday (40%).

While Millennials are less religious than older Americans, nine -in-ten still say they take part in Christmas celebrations and in many instances, they celebrate more than their older, festive counterparts.

Millennials are as likely as older generations to attend a holiday party, put up Christmas decorations or go caroling.  While 91% of Millennials said they planned on buying gifts during the 2013 holiday season, only 86% of Baby Boomers said they would.  Take a guess which age group was more into the office “Secret Santa” exchange…

While Millennials are definitely into ugly Christmas sweater parties and giving gifts, they are less likely than older generations to send a card.  Only 57% of Millennials would send a card while 68% of Baby Boomers (your parents) will be slipping a card in the mailbox.

But their “Merry Christmas” mass-texts will surely be just as meaningful!
