Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) made an appearance at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C. Wednesday to promote his new book titled “The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future” that is bound to make his antagonists’ heads spin.
Inhofe wasted no time into tearing into his favorite targets, namely the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the Environmental Protection Agency and former Vice President Al Gore among others.
The Senator’s tireless work exposing the flawed science behind global warming has earned him harsh names that run the gambit – with environmentalist leader Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently calling him a “prostitute” and suggesting he be cited for “treason.”
He has had nearly 50 interviews since debuting the book late last month on Sean Hannity’s show, including sparring with Alan Colmes and an awaited bout with Rachel Maddow tonight on MSNBC.
But he is not backing down from his contention that global warming is a “hoax,” which he defines as something established by fraud and fabrication.
Inhofe said he decided to write the book even though Gore and the IPCC have been discredited and debunked to raise awareness that global warming theories are all about money and power for the environmental elites.
And evidence from climate scientist and cap and trade supporter Tom Wigley, who formerly worked with Gore, suggests that it would have virtually no impact on global temperatures, according to Inhofe.
The Senator warns that the international environmentalist movement wants to use the UN to impose what could become the largest tax hike in history.
Back in 1993, during Inhofe’s last year in the House of Representatives, President Bill Clinton rammed a $39 billion tax hike through Congress, but he estimates based on economic analysis from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business that the resulting tax from cap and trade would roughly equal 10 times that amount.
President Obama has used a free hand to use the EPA to unilaterally impose a massive tax increase by imposing cap and trade through the Clean Air Act, which allows the agency to regulate any carbon emissions in excess of 250 tons per year.
This would effectively place every home or school in the country under the EPA’s grasp, Inhofe said.
But the greatest irony is that EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson has testified before Inhofe saying that this unilateral imposition of cap and trade will not decrease carbon emissions and that it actually will increase them.
“President Obama poses a threat in three areas,” Inhofe said. “He is disarming America. Secondly, he has an effort to keep us from developing our own resources. We have more developable resources like coal, natural gas, and oil [than almost any country on earth]. If we run our consumption of natural gas at current levels, we have enough for 90 years and 60 years for oil.
“Yet we are only country in the world can’t develop it’s own resources. He said we produce more oil and gas since he has been he’s been in office, but it has been by default.”
Senator Inhofe stands alone suggesting that Republicans made a critical error by going along with the president and the administration on earmarks. The administration has taken advantage of this by funneling of billions of dollars to its cronies like George Kaiser of Solyndra notoriety and to other big Democratic donors for otherwise unviable green energy projects, Inhofe said.
“The whole idea in the House of Representatives that you have a one-year moratorium on earmarks is the wrong thing to do. You have two kinds of earmarks,” Inhofe said. “You have legislative earmarks and bureaucratic earmarks.”
Basically, if Congress doesn’t use monies set aside for earmarks, the President can then use him for his pet projects, like Solyndra.
Inhofe also warns that cap and trade is the tip of the iceberg for the environmental movement as it moves into the area of sustainable development at the upcoming climate summit in Rio de Janeiro, which would involve the redistribution of resources between rich and poor countries.
“Liberals are addicted to controlling life,” Inhofe said.
