MSNBC host Ed Schultz calls Hillary Clinton e-mail uproar ‘Benghazi witch-hunt’

Okay, perhaps we gave MSNBC too much credit Tuesday for reporting the news about Hillary Clinton’s private e-mail account when she was secretary of State.

Host Ed Schultz slammed Republicans like Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) on “The Ed Show” Tuesday evening for waging a “Benghazi witch-hunt” against Clinton to obtain all correspondence from the former secretary of State relevant to the House’s investigation of the 2012 terror attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya.

Schultz invited DNC executive board member Mitch Ceasar to comment on whether or not the private e-mail revelation will pose a problem for Clinton as she readies her 2016 presidential campaign.

“I don’t think so at all,” replied Ceasar. “I think this is, as you said, Benghazi fever. Republicans are really good when there’s no fire. They create smoke and create questions. I think the real issue is, and it seems to be coming out now and a little bit later, whether or not the law that affects her went in to effect in November 2014, which was way after she was gone.”

Schultz’s second guest on the show, Occidental College professor Carolina Heldman, insisted that Republicans are “making a mountain out of a molehill” in their critique of Clinton.

“They’re going to go after her for anything,” continued Heldman. “I think this shows us the ugly and ignorant side of politics that a lot of Americans are tired of. This is just partisan politics at its best. There’s no real problem here.”

The professor of politics also alleged that there exists “zero evidence” that Clinton is hiding something.

Former Michigan governor and current Priorities USA co-chair Jennifer Granholm also weighed in on the controversy, hilariously dubbing it a “nothing burger.”

Exclusively liberal commentary at its finest.
