MSNBC‘s Chris Hayes doesn’t just think that electing Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis (D-Fort Worth) to the office of Governor is important — he thinks it’s a “matter of life or death for many Texans.”
On Friday night’s episode of All In, Hayes raved about the Democrat’s relatively recent rise to prominence in Texas politics. He pointed out how the single mother fought against a bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, garnering considerable liberal support in the process and making her a viable Democratic candidate for the state’s governorship.
“But a Wendy Davis candidacy is more than just good politics for Democrats,” Hayes said. “It’s literally a matter of life or death for many Texans.”
He then went on to explain that Davis wants to expand Medicaid and thereby provide healthcare coverage for more people in the Lone Star state, a plan that current Gov. Rick Perry (R) does not support.
But Hayes conveniently ignored two things.
First, he disregarded the fact that the bill she filibustered against later passed in the Senate and was signed into law.
And second, he seemed unaware that having a Governor Davis would actually mean the difference between life and death for countless Texans — not for people who are currently uninsured, but for the unborn.
