Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wisc.) got an unwelcome birthday present on Wednesday night: a random individual attacked him on Capitol Hill.
The night before the Congressman’s 42nd birthday, a physical incident occurred as the Wisconsin Republican was walking through the halls of the Longworth House Office Building en route to the Capitol for final votes, according to Roll Call.
“A random individual, unknown to the congressman, began screaming at him and grabbed his arm,” Duffy spokeswoman Cassie Smedile said in a statement issued Thursday morning. “Mr. Duffy was unharmed. He reported the incident in compliance with House security procedures. Congressman Duffy has requested no further action be taken and there will be no further comment on the matter at this time.”
Apparently the incident resulted from frustrations over the government shutdown. Duffy has sided with members of the House GOP who want a one-year delay in Obamacare implementation.
The Washington Post reported that no arrests had yet been made.
The Congressman has been an outspoken critic of Senate Republicans such as Ted Cruz (Texas) and Mike Lee (Utah) during the continuing resolution fight.
“What I see happening now is people coming out and calling them out for the hypocrisy of these big, tough conservatives who know how to fight but will never get in the ring,” Duffy said earlier this month.
