Donald Trump received quite the question from CNN’s Jake Tapper during an interview that aired on State of the Union Sunday.
The Republican presidential candidate was specifically commenting on the historic Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage that came down Friday, explaining that he supports “traditional marriage” but that opinions about the issue are “changing rapidly.”
“What do you say to a lesbian who is married or to a gay man who is married who says, Donald Trump, what’s traditional about being married three times?” Tapper wondered of the business mogul’s twin divorces.
That one appeared to stump Trump.
“They have a very good point,” Trump admitted. “I’ve been a very hardworking person. Actually, I have a great marriage, I have a great wife now and my two wives were very good. And I don’t blame them, but I was working — maybe like you — 22 hours a day.”
“I’m not asking you to explain your divorces,” Tapper followed, again pressing Trump to disclose what he would say to a same-sex couple if grilled about his prior marriages.
“I really don’t say anything,” Trump responded, adding, “I’m for traditional marriage.”
