Dating website OkCupid got a hard lesson in the dangers of weather-related email blasts recently, telling Boulder, Colo. residents — who are currently suffering through terrible flooding — to check their profiles during “bad weather.”
According to Mother Jones, the email was sent out “the other day.” It tells OkCupid users that it’s “raining tonight in Boulder” and informs them that people are more likely to sign into their dating profiles during bad weather.
“It’s the perfect time to message that special someone!” the email reads.
As of Monday, seven people had died as a result of the flooding caused by heavy rainfall during the past week. More than 1,000 people are still missing. On Saturday, President Barack Obama declared “a major disaster” in the state and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local aid.
“The President’s action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in Boulder County,” according to an email from the White House.
Users on Twitter began condemning the OkCupid email “insensitive” and “not classy.”
At the time of this article, OkCupid had not returned request for comment.
