Satirical website Funny or Die took a stab at Stand Your Ground laws in a new video, slamming the National Rifle Association and mocking supporters of the laws.
The video, featuring comedians Sarah Silverman, David Alan Grier, Ron Funches and Deon Cole, parodies a new pro-Second Amendment group called the Black NRA. In the Funny or Die skit, each actor discusses the need for young African-Americans to have guns, referencing the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin and alleging the NRA works only to put guns in the hands of white Americans.
“Our fund will put guns into the hands of those that need them most … young black males,” says Silverman, posing as a spokesperson for the NRA.
The actors — who are all African-American— continue, saying now that they have guns they feel comfortable “doing everyday normal things.”
“Like wearing a hoodie,” Cole says.
“Eating Skittles,” continues Funches.
“Walking in the rain,” Grier says.
“Or being in Florida,” concludes Cole.
“Thanks NRA. You taught me what realistic peace is all about,” Silverman continues. “Standing you ground, pointing that gun at the bad guy and having him point it right back and going, ‘Hey, I guess we’re not that different after all.'”
She goes on to point the gun — with her finger on the trigger — at the camera and then at her head, breaking the most basic of gun safety rules.
“Let’s shoot us some love,” Cole said. “Or just stop shooting innocent people.”
Since George Zimmerman was acquitted after shooting and killing Martin earlier this summer, many on the Left — including Attorney General Eric Holder and President Barack Obama — have spoken out against Stand Your Ground laws. Zimmerman’s defense, though, did not use the Florida statute as a basis for Zimmerman’s innocence.
The NRA had not responded to Red Alert’s request for comment by the time of publication.
