New “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon and featured guest Will Smith shook things up Monday night with a scene highlighting the evolution of hip-hop dance. Wearing half-buttoned denim overalls and colorful t-shirts reminiscent of the movement’s early days, the duo performed a variety of moves and song-specific dances for a little over 2 and a half minutes.
They did the late-80s classic “cabbage patch” dance and the “pop and lock;” gave Naughty by Nature a shout-out with “Hip Hop Hooray;” and went more modern with the likes of the Soulja Boy dance and twerking, the latter of which Smith strongly disapproved. He was, however, in love with performing the “spank that” move — maybe a little too much in love with it.
Check out this and more, including a nod to Smith’s “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” days, below.
