Kanye West bizarrely referred to George W. Bush during his acceptance speech of an honorary degree at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago Monday, sarcastically complimenting the former president on his painting skills.
“My medium is public opinion and the world is my canvas,” West told his audience. “‘I’m sorry’ is something that you can use a lot. It gives you the opportunity to give your opinion, apologize for it, and give your opinion again. People say you should not be sorry for your opinions.”
The rapper then paused … and brought up Bush.
“George Bush,” Kanye said with a smile to a cheering crowd. “has some very cool self portraits. I didn’t know he was an artist.”
The rapper went on to talk about something completely separate. Bush, of course, has become known for his painting hobby.
This certainly isn’t the first time that West — who is notorious for speaking his mind on stage — has talked about the 43rd president.
After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Kanye infamously alleged during a live relief telethon that “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.”
Unsurprisingly, Bush is not a fan of Kanye West.
