A man’s lightsaber caused an incident at Farmingdale State College on Long Island Wednesday morning. A woman passing by the man’s car thought he was assembling a rifle and called campus police.
An alert was sent out for everyone to “shelter in place.” The excitement lasted less than an hour; when college authorities and the Suffolk County police discovered that the man simply had his lightsaber, normal actives were resumed.
The police situation on campus has been resolved without incident. All students, faculty, and staff should resume normal activities.

The man and his lightsaber didn’t injure anyone, and no arrests were made.
It isn’t the only Star Wars incident to occur on Long Island, however. In 2010, a man dressed as Darth Vader managed to rob a Chase bank in Setauket.
Getting into trouble in Star Wars gear seems to be prevalent in Europe as well. As the New York Post pointed out to readers, a young man dressed as Darth Vader at a Swedish high school didn’t have a lightsaber, but a sword. And in Ukraine, where Star Wars candidates are actually elected, a man dressed as Chewbacca was arrested for voting document issues.
