House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) posted a new video Thursday informing Americans that the real reason Congress has not approved jobs legislation is that “many” of the 30 jobs bills proposed by Republicans and passed in the Republican-controlled House are currently stalled in the Democratically-controlled Senate.
“These aren’t big, controversial bills that no one has read, they are practical, common sense proposals to help small businesses to create jobs and build a stronger economy for all Americans,” Boehner said.
Boehner said if the House-passed bills could just be passed in the Senate, small businesses could start hiring, the economy would recover faster and the President’s health care reform legislation would be repealed because it is making it difficult for businesses to hire new workers.
The Speaker also said bills had been passed that would address the long-term debt problem in the U.S., but those were currently stalled in the Senate as well.
Boehner’s argument turns President Barack Obama’s claim that the gridlock in Washington is occurring because Republicans are unwilling to compromise right on its head. Additionally, Obama’s attempts to blame Republicans for the economic crisis, as he did just today in his speech at Cuyahoga County Community College in Cleveland, Ohio, are falling flat, was a Rasmussen Reports poll released today shows that 50 percent of likely voters trust Romney handle the economic crisis, while only 42 percent trust Obama.
