Even though he has admitted that he won’t be the nominee, Ron Paul is still attempting to steal Mitt Romney’s thunder.
On Thursday morning, Rep. Paul sent a personal email to his campaign supporters, informing them that the Paul 2012 campaign will have nearly 200 bound delegates at the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa.
Ironically however, the majority of his claimed 500 supporters at the convention will actually be bound to Mitt Romney, as a result of Romney’s extensive primary victories.
Rep. Paul admits that they are not his official delegates, but remains convinced that those candidates share his beliefs of “liberty, constitutional government, and a common sense foreign policy.”
The Paul 2012 campaign believes that their supporters will account for over 20 percent of the total delegates present at the conference.
While he has admitted that he will not have enough candidates to win the GOP nomination, Ron Paul told his supporters that this level of support in Tampa “puts us in a tremendous position to grow our movement and shape the future of the GOP!”
Paul also encouraged his supporters to use Tampa as an opportunity to “push the Republican Party back to its limited government, liberty roots.”
He also asked his supporters to be civil, telling them to “stand up for what they believe in,” but to also “be respectful.”
Last month, a large mob of Paul supporters repeatedly interrupted Mitt Romney’s son, Josh, with a chorus of boos as he attempted to campaign for his dad at a convention in Arizona.
The Republican National Convention is less than three months away, and will officially determine the Republican candidate in the 2012 presidential election. Mitt Romney is the only Republican nominee who has secured enough delegates to qualify for the endorsement.
