When an event was added to the CPAC program entitled “Conservative Dating” with the tag line: “How to avoid scaring away your personal Dagny Taggart,” many an inner romantic were intrigued.
Dating coach Wayne Elise revealed to the packed room of young conservatives (many possibly looking for a date!) is this: dating for conservatives is basically dating for everyone else.
Elise’s advice focused on being clear with your intentions and with the qualities you are seeking in a partner, and not asking annoying questions on a first date—pretty good advice for anyone. He should have been more specific with this crows that questions about supporting Ron Paul are included in the annoying category.
The audience was overwhelmingly young, with curious students and curious journalists, all of whom were hoping for more declarative statements on how conservatives absolutely cannot date liberals. Turns out, Elise thinks you can, but he also thinks it doesn’t matter as much.
“When you are in a relationship for a long time, you stop arguing about politics and start arguing how how clean the bathroom is.”
What I’m taking away from the panel is the key to avoid scaring off your personal Dagny Taggart, or in my case, Hank Rearden, is to keep your bathroom clean.
