Beyonce ‘shocked’ by backlash over recent Cuba vacation

Sounds like Mrs. Shawn Carter didn’t expect there to be so much controversy surrounding her anniversary trip to Cuba either.During an interview with “Good Morning America” Monday, the pop superstar finally opened up about the backlash  she and Jay-Z have received over her recent Caribbean vacation.”You know, it was such a beautiful trip,” she told GMA’S Amy Robach. “I met some incredible children. I visited some incredible entrepreneurs.  I learned so much about so many people and the country, and it was actually quite shocking.”It’s interesting Beyonce doesn’t understand why people would question the legality of her trip, considering the Treasury Department made a special exception to the U.S. Trade Embargo on Cuba just so she and Jay-Z could visit.

Last month, Florida Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Diaz-Balart wrote a letter to the Treasury Department demanding to know why the Carters received permission to travel to the communist state. The Treasury Department later responded that they approved the trip for “educational” purposes.

Queen B has remained relatively quiet on the issue until now, but the controversy did inspire her husband to write a song directed at the politicians who “distort history.” His song “Open Letter” subsequently started a rap battle with reporters and rappers alike. Even President Obama, who had Beyonce perform at his second inauguration, was cornered by the media to comment on the trip.

But despite all the flak over the trip, this is still Beyonce’s world. We just live in it.
