Morgan Freeman: Race has nothing to do with income inequality

Morgan Freeman batted away the claim that race is related to income inequality in an interview Tuesday.

CNN’s Don Lemon discussed the topic of race with Freeman specifically in the context of economics and asked the actor if he thought it plays a part in wealth distribution.

“Today? No. No, I don’t.” he replied. “Why would race have anything to do with it? Put your mind to what you want to do and go for that. It’s kind of like religion to me: It’s a good excuse for not getting there.”

Lemon added that he was growing tired of talking about race, a frequent topic in the news cycle nowadays. (The irony is evident in this post.)

“It’s not like it exists and we refuse to talk about it, but making it a bigger issue than it needs to be is the problem here,” Freeman chimed in.

Freeman also talked about the importance of fostering a vibrant middle class in the interview, a clip of which can be viewed below.
