A real-life Captain America came to the rescue at the scene of a car crash Sunday just in time to pull a man from the flames.
Fort Bragg Army Captain Steve Voglezan was, as he described it, “in the right place at the right time” when a car crossed over the center line and collided with another car in Chatham County, North Carolina, quickly bursting into flames.
According to an ABC news report, Voglezan jumped in to action along with nearby neighbors who had witnessed the crash, and took a fire extinguisher to the car window to pull William Thompson out of the burning car. He then went back, amid the flames, to rescue Thompson’s wife.
This was all before the firefighters even arrived on the scene.
The part even more incredible than this soldiers act of spontaneous heroism? The red Captain America t-shirt he just happened to be wearing.
Voglezon was ever the humble hero when interviewed about his action, citing his army training as the reason he knew how and was able to react.
“People do this every day at the fire department. I wasn’t alone out there, there were at least 10 of us in the community working together,” he told ABC news.
