MSNBC hosts Al Sharpton and Mika Brzezinski came down on Democrats during a segment of “Morning Joe” Thursday.
Specifically, Sharpton criticized Democrats for running away from President Obama in their campaigns ahead of the midterm election.
“Democrats failed to give the argument on behalf of the president,” said Sharpton.
Brzezinski accused Democrats of “playing for the cheap seats,” a strategy that ultimately backfired on them during the midterm election.
“We always accuse the Republicans of playing for the cheap seats,” alleged Brzezinski. “The Democrats did this time. But there was nobody in them.”
Rev. Al Sharpton agreed with her.
“They were playing for seats that wasn’t even in the stadium,” he responded. “I mean, who were you playing to? It’s crazy.”
Sharpton also claimed on the MSNBC program that Obama will attempt to work with Republicans in the Senate and House when the new Congress convenes next year.
“I think he’s committed to certain basic things,” explained Sharpton. “But I also think he’s trying to work where he can with Republicans.”
Brzezinski described Obama as “a president disappointed in his party and his candidates,” adding that new Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kent.) has the opportunity to become a “hero” should he be willing to work with the president.
“McConnell can be a hero here,” she alleged. “If he can figure out how to get something done and work with this president, they both will win.”
