Popular search engine Google recently purchased Boston Dynamics, a company that designs robots — including one that can easily outrun humans. And just in case Google plans to use the machines to enslave humanity, Stephen Colbert is breeding his own Ewok army to combat them.
On Monday night’s episode of The Colbert Report, the host detailed the scary capabilities of Boston Dynamics’ fleet of robots, many of which were designed for military uses. There’s Sand Flea, which can leap to the top of a two-story building, and Cheetah, which can outrun the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt.
Colbert’s response? Come up with a defense strategy straight out of science fiction — namely, Star Wars.
“Tonight, I am proud to say I am announcing the formation of a Rebel Alliance to defend humanity,” Colbert told the audience “After all, these things are just like Imperial Walkers.”
And what’s the best way to combat Imperial Walkers, as learned in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi? An army of adorably fluffy little Ewoks.
