A Monday panel discussion about race for The Kelly File was full of crazy moments but was dominated by community activist Jessica Disu, who said “we need to abolish the police, period.”
While Disu excitedly spoke as others tried to get a word in to respond to her claims, she said that “this is the reason why our young people are hopeless in America. Our young people are hopeless because you have all these adults here who are not listening to our young people.”
In addition to calling for abolishing the police, to boos from other panelists and surprise from host Megyn Kelly, she also suggested a need to “demilitiarize the police, disarm the police,” though she didn’t address why they would need to be demilitiarized and disarmed if they were already abolished.
“We need to come up with community solutions for transformative justice,” Disu said as her alternative to the police. She did not go into detail with what that would entail.
When pressed by Kelly as to who would protect the community without the police, Disu stuck to her similar non-answers of “community solutions” and said that “the police force in this country began as slave patrol.”
A self-described “humanitarian rap artist,” Disu goes by the name FM Supreme and “uses language as a tool for positive change.” That phrasing may be helpful in describing herself as an artist, but would not be a helpful alternative to police when it comes to protecting the community.
Disu made other noteworthy comments during the course of the 40-minute panel, which can be viewed in full here.
