Joe Biden is a lot of things, but ‘sexy’ probably isn’t a word that comes to mind for most women when describing the Vice President. Then again, Pawnee, Ind. city councilwoman Leslie Knope of NBC’s “Parks and Recreation” (aka“Parks and Rec”) isn’t most women.
Knope, (played by Amy Poehler), has repeatedly mentioned Biden’s good looks throughout the series, including one episode in which she claims her ideal man would have “the brains of George Clooney and the body of Joe Biden.”
On last night’s episode of Parks and Rec Knope’s equally nerdy fiance Ben Wyatt (played by Adam Scott) gives Knope the opportunity to meet the only person on “Celebrity Sex List” – Biden – as an engagement gift.
During an awkward exchange with the VP Knope laughs uncontrollably upon meeting Biden and says, “This isn’t happening. This isn’t real.”
“No, it’s happening, and I’m delighted to have you here. On behalf of the President and myself,” Biden says before being interruped by Knope, who tells him that she’s “flattered” but she can’t take Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s job, before deciding to accept the job (which wasn’t being offered to her in the first place).
While Biden congratulates her for her public service Knope grasps his hands and then his face before grabbing his entire body as if she’s about to go in for a kiss and tells the VP, “I think you’re very handsome.”
At that point Ben notes leads her out of the room, saying, “I think we’re all done.”
During the exchange with Knope the VP keeps plugging through his prepared remarks ignoring her inappropriate behavior, but as she leaves the room he looks genuinely uncomfortable.
“He was a good sport and a great improviser,” Poehler told The Huffington Post. “The Vice President maintained his composure while I harassed him and invaded his personal space.”
The show was taped in July, although details of the taping were not released until after the presidential election last week.
Earlier this season Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) also appeared on the show in an episode shot in Washington, D.C.
Biden said on the campaign trail last month that after his second term as Vice President he might return to his home state of Delaware and run for “county council or something.” But who knows. Maybe this was the VP’s big break in the acting business – he is quite the comedian.
