Schumer says story about him ‘demanding an apology’ from Beyoncé is “just made up”

New York Senator Chuck Schumer says there’s no truth to claims that he ‘demanded an apology’ from pop superstar Beyoncé for lip-syncing the the National Anthem at President Barack Obama’s inauguration last week.

At a POLITICO Playbook breakfast Wednesday morning, the Democratic Senator and chair of the 2012 inaugural committee said the New York Post story that started the rumor is ” just made up.”

“I think she did a great job at the inauguration,” he said.

Schumer claimed that as he was walking out of an event when he was approached by a reporter who asked him if B had apolgized, to which he simply said, “No.”

On Monday the Post reported that Schumer “angrily admitted” at the event that Beyoncé had not called him.

“I have not heard from her before, during or after …. She did not talk to me at all. I didn’t say any words to her, period,” the Post claims a “testy Schumer” said after his weekly Sunday press conference.

Schumer has had only nice things to say publicly about Beyoncé since the incident, however, and a source close to the Senator reportedly told Buzzfeed Monday that, “He wishes people would leave Beyoncé alone.”

“She performed for free, and it was a thrill to have her at the ceremony. Just look at his face during her performance! He’d have her back in a New York minute,” the source added.

On Wednesday the Senator reiterated that he was an early supporter of Beyoncé’s and is still a big fan. Schumer said the whole thing was “silly” and that he couldn’t wait to see her perform at the Super Bowl this Sunday in New Orleans.
