Classified information in Clinton emails continue to give her trouble

With the release of more emails from Hillary Clinton’s private server, her public statements about sensitive and classified information appear contradictory.

At least six emails that Clinton wrote and sent contain information now classified, according to the Washington Post.

The State Department was in charge of redacting sensitive material.

Of the emails released so far, about four dozen State Department officials have had material in their email redacted. Classified material was found in 188 emails thus far.

Sensitive information found on the server has raised concerns because the private server was outside the scope of the federal government and its security measures.

Clinton faces five investigations. Three are on Capitol Hill, driven by Republicans, and another from the FBI, but Clinton is not the target of the FBI investigation. The agency is reviewing her email server to ensure sensitive information wasn’t compromised. Republican investigations range over her email use, roles and responsibilities at the State Department, and Benghazi. The fifth is the State Department’s review over how official materials were handled.

How government officials designate material as classified can vary and officials might err on the side of caution. Clinton has repeatedly said she did not send nor receive any classified material, and any information now deemed classified was done so after the fact.
