The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) appears to be taking no chances when it comes to protecting the upcoming high-profile Democratic and Republican National Conventions from radical protest groups like resistRNC.
As Russia Today reports, the DHS has purchased nearly 150 sets of riot gear to properly equip the Federal Protective Service agents that are tasked with ensuring the safety and well-being of attendees at the convention, as well as the buildings and grounds themselves.
Ever since the rise of the violent Occupy Wall Street movement last fall, a number of protest groups have attempted to interrupt recent political gatherings, including the 2012 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
Earlier this month, Red Alert Politics discovered a website that featured plans for several different protests at the 2012 Republican National Convention, by a group that calls themselves “Occupy The RNC/resistRNC.”
In addition to the website stating that protestors may ignore the planned free speech areas and venture wherever they wish to march, the website also featured multiple videos of protests that had a violent nature, and a music video that involved a protester throwing a Molotov cocktail at police.
After Red Alert Politics published the details of the site, resistRNC removed much of the material that had a violent nature, and also published a charming response to our investigation, titled “Hypof**kingcrites.”
Regardless, it is reassuring to see that the attendees of both the RNC and DNC will not have to worry about over-zealous protestors, as the event security seems well-equipped to deal with any issues.
