The strikes against Syria caused concerns for many Trump loyalists who had hoped his Presidency would stray from the more hawkish foreign policy of past Republican Administrations.
Dr. Sebastian Gorka, the deputy assistant to the President, appeared on “The Laura Ingraham Show” Thursday to put their worries at ease.
“It is essential for your listeners and the people who voted for this administration to understand that the President in his fundamental outlook has not changed, I can guarantee you,” Gorka said. “He has no interest, absolutely no interest in invading other people’s countries and occupying them, that has not changed.”
Gorka insisted that the attack was a surgical strike and not the beginning of an invasion of Syria.
“Understand not one pair of boots was put on the ground,” he continued. “This was a limited surgical strike, targeting a specific location, at a certain time of day that absolutely minimalized human casualties.”
“This is not Gulf I. This isn’t Afghanistan. This isn’t Operation Iraqi Freedom. This has to do with weapons of mass destruction in a war zone where the jihadists are most powerful,” Gorka said. “Mission creep is something other administrations suffered from.”
The Deputy Assistant to the President insisted at the end of the interview that “this is not a neocon administration and George Bush III” and the only goal was to change the behavior of Assad.
