Hillary Clinton has struggled to gain the trust of voters throughout her campaign. The FBI’s recent decision not to indict Clinton despite her mishandling of classified information has not only increased distrust of Clinton, but it gave some people the perception that Clinton received special treatment as a big-name politician.
Campus Reform visited the Lincoln Memorial to find out how young millennial voters feel about Hillary Clinton. Like everyone else, millennial voters question whether they can trust Clinton and whether she is fit to be president.
“If you were a voter that was on the fence, would that make you look at Hillary and say, ‘I can’t trust her?’” Campus Reform asked.
“It’s a little worrisome to put our entire country’s fate in her hands,” one young voter said.
“She’s so shady! Especially after everything that happened yesterday. I would never trust her,” another young voter responded.
“All of this stuff going on with Hillary, you can’t really trust in what she’s saying,” another millennial commented.
Millennials, like many others, also believe that Clinton might’ve received special treatment because of her political connections.
One veteran talked about how military members go through security training each year that is similar to the training Clinton went through annually. It led the veteran to believe that, if the average person did what Clinton did, they wouldn’t have gotten away with it.
“If anyone else did it, they would be in jail by now,” the young veteran said.
Unlike former rival Bernie Sanders and President Obama, Hillary Clinton has yet to gain the support and energy of millennial voters. As expected, the final decision in her email scandal did not help her win over millennial voters.
One millennial voter summarized his generation’s attitude toward Clinton by saying that her email investigation had a “whiff of corruption.”
