What does your favorite drink say about your politics?

In time for the holiday season, Paul Bedard, the Washington Secrets columnist for the Washington Examiner, and Lori Lundin discussed how your wine preference may predict your party affiliation.

Bedard pointed to a poll from Morning Consult to explain. White wine is favored by Democrats. Republicans prefer red. The latest presidential election supports the choice, as Obama’s voters were twice as likely to drink white wine, and Romney’s voters picked red by two to one.

Bedard and Ludin predicted independents would prefer rosette.

Lundin joked about the science behind it, but Bedard pointed out that with a margin of error of 3 or 4 percent, it is accurate.

With the frequency of holiday parties with the office or friends and family members, it may be fun to test out the accuracy of the poll. And, for those watching election results at a bar, it’s worth a try there too.

As Bedard noted for party goers, “you don’t even have to talk politics it turns out with them, you can just see if they’ve got a glass of white and you’re a conservative, turn around and go the other way!”

Ludin closed by encouraging people to “of course don’t harass your friends if they drink wine from the other side of the aisle.”
