Jon Stewart defends Obama for not calling Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu

Jon Stewart defended President Obama on “The Daily Show” for refusing to call Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after he declared victory in the country’s election Wednesday.

Despite the fact that Israel is an ally to the United States, Netanyahu received no congratulations from the White House. Obama undoubtedly refused to call the Israeli leader in order to convey his dissatisfaction with Netanyahu for addressing Congress on the Iran nuclear deal earlier this month without the White House’s permission.

Many Republicans have been unsurprisingly critical of Obama’s snub, but that didn’t stop Stewart from defending the president for the rude non-gesture.

“You find it interesting that a foreign country’s prime minister who came to Congress against the White House’s wishes to s–t on a nuclear deal the president spent years working on wouldn’t receive an immediate post-election ‘attaboy’?” he exclaimed.

The comedian went on to skewer Netanyahu for his strategy ahead of the election, drawing a curious comparison between the Israeli prime minister and Mitt Romney. Watch below.
